Green Technologies Exacerbate Exploitation in the DRC
The Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace & Justice in collaboration with Canadian Jesuits International, the Jesuit Centre for Catholic Studies (St. Paul's College, and the UManitoba Peace and Conflict Studies Graduate Programs presents:

A Brown Bag Lecture with Fr Jacques Nzumbu SJ, Jesuit Central African Province

Fr. Jacques Nzumbu SJ will share his experience in understanding the harmful impact of green technologies on human rights, conflict, and inequality in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the DRC, mining companies that seek green technology minerals, some of them Canadian, violate human rights through unjust labour practices, cause environmental harm, and impact the health of communities.

What Canadian laws govern the behaviour of Canadian mining companies? Are there any legal restrictions or do these companies operate with impunity? Fr Nzumbu will propose solutions to both address climate change and not worsen the inequality between the Global North and South.
